Overview
Japan's First Private-sector Satellite Operator

Following the enforcement of Japan's Telecommunications Business Law in 1985, JSAT was established as Japan's first private-sector satellite operator.

Asia's Largest Satellite Operator

JSAT is Asia's largest satellite operator. We have nine satellites positioned in eight orbits at an altitude of roughly 36,000km. These satellites cover an extensive area comprising all of Asia, including India and Pakistan, as well as Oceania and Hawaii. In addition, the October 2003 launch of the Horizons-1 satellite has expanded coverage to include all of North America.

Ranked 5th Worldwide in Revenues

JSAT has pioneered the satellite communications market by providing innovative satellite communications services. JSAT has achieved revenues of \44.3 billion, making it the world's fifth largest satellite communications operator in terms of revenues from satellite communications markets worldwide
(JSAT research as of June 2005).

Advantages of Satellite Communications
Satellite communications services, including those provided by JSAT, have three main advantages over other communications technologies.
Wide Coverage
One satellite can cover roughly one-third of the Earth's surface in theory.

Multicasting Capability
High quality images and large-volume data can be transmitted to the whole coverage area simultaneously.

Flexibility and Disaster Readiness
Even in areas inaccessible to terrestrial signals or when terrestrial communication lines have been cut off due to an earthquake or other disaster, communication links can be established using satellite relay vehicles and other means, allowing greater flexibility in the exchange of data.

JSAT is leveraging the advantages of satellites to expand the potential of business. JSAT's communications satellites are opening up new opportunities with applications ranging from the provision of SKY PerfecTV ! , a CS digital broadcasting service, to satellite-based live television broadcasts, content distribution services for retail outlets, and auction networks linking auction sites across Japan. JSAT is reinforcing group-wide collaboration to deliver solution-based services.
