Typical Applications of Satellite Communications

Satellites operating at a geo-stationary orbit of 36,000 km above the equator can cover approximately one-third of the world’s surface. Within this wide coverage area, satellite communications allow simultaneous transmissions to multiple destinations. This feature is beneficial for establishing national and international enterprise networks, video contributions and is also effective in expanding for digital divide/remote area communications. Satellites allow VSAT Networks to be easily deployed to provide secure critical communications that can support immediate disaster recovery and restoration situations where terrestrial networks are susceptible to damage from disasters such as earthquakes.
